cheaply made shelf, some assembly issues

This is a very cheaply made shelf. If you're going to order it, don't be deluded into thinking you're going to get a piece of furniture that will last. You will be lucky to get a couple of years out of this shelf before it starts having major issues. If all you need is a cheap shelf for a short time period, though, then this will work for you.Why is it a cheap shelf, you ask?- It's not solid wood; it's particle board. And it's not very good particle board. Lots of air space inside it. This impacts stability and weight-bearing capacity -- and the unevenness means that some areas will be weaker than others.- Missing some shelf screw holes. There are holes for the included pegs (used to shore up the stability of the shelves) but they forgot to drill starter holes for all of the screws (sometimes there are starter holes, sometimes there are not). The instructions indicate a hand-held non-electric screwdriver should be used for assembly, which is more difficult if some of the holes aren't pre-drilled. (Since the particle board is so low-quality, it isn't very hard to get the shelf screws in by hand without a pre-drilled hole... but that's not really a good thing.)- No pre-drilled holes for the triangular corner stabilizers. The plastic triangular corner stabilizers are an absolute must to install for a cheap shelf like this; you do not want to skip them. However, installation with a non-electric screwdriver is quite difficult because there are no pre-drilled holes at all for these screws. And because you are entering the particle board at a perpendicular angle (unlike the shelf screws), it's a lot harder to get the screws in by hand. Not impossible (I did it) but it requires a little muscle and it isn't easy.- 10 pound weight limit. As a reflection of how cheaply made this shelf is and how crappy the particle board is, each shelf has a limit of just 10 pounds. That isn't very much. Practically, it means that you cannot use this shelf as an actual bookshelf... because filling the shelf with books will quickly exceed the wight limit (unless you only read lightweight paperbacks). If you exceed the weight limit, you'll shorten the life of this already-short-lived shelf even further -- as the shelf will start to sag, then break, and the shelf will start to lean.- Paper stickers to cover the screw ends. There is a sheet of white paper stickers to put over the ends of the screws so that they blend in with the white shelf. These look awful when applied and don't even lay flat. I give them a week before they just starting following off on their own, if they don't get rubbed off by simple contact before that. Just leave the screw ends alone, or, if you must, brush on a coat of white paint to conceal them. You've bought a really cheap shelf; don't try to pretend otherwise by using these stupid stickers.****I'm giving this shelf 4 stars because you're not going to find a higher quality item at this price point. The item description is accurate; they are upfront about the use of particle board and the low weight capacity. If all you can afford is a cheap shelf, that's all you can afford. Just be aware that you're not going to be pleasantly surprised by something that was nicer than you expected. You will definitely get what you're paying for with this and nothing more than that.

Simple little shelf. Easy to assemble but has some quality issues.

You can never have enough storage. We picked up this 2-tier bookcase through Vine to go in our laundry room for some of the lighter things we keep in there. Unfortunately, the shelves aren't strong enough to hold detergent or anything moderately heavy as they're only rated for 10 lbs. per shelf. Honestly, there's a good chance that one of our cats jumping on it could break it as they're a little over 10 lbs. each. Assembling these was simple and only took about 10-15 minutes. They don't include any additional hardware though, so be careful not to lose any pieces. We did have one of the wooden dowels snap when putting this together, so there's a good chance one of the shelves is now significantly weaker. The wooden dowels are EXTREMELY fragile to the point where I could snap it in my hands with minimal effort. The edges of the shelf also are pretty rough in spots with some broken points covered up by paint (see the 2nd picture) and uneven edges not properly shaped. It still looks fine when its all together, but I'm not sure how well it will hold up as it feels quite cheap.OVERALL: C+All things said, its a simple little bookshelf. There's nothing special about it but there are unfortunately some issues. The aforementioned wood quality issues, lack of spare parts included, and covered-up errors do not justify a $30+ price tag in my opinion. You can get a larger bookcase from Walmart or Target that is better quality and holds more weight for the same price or less. I've even seen similar products at Aldi and my other local supermarkets for lower prices. I'm quite disappointed with this unit as I've gotten other Furinno brand items before and didn't have these problems.

Just what the office needed!

I was using a bedside table as a bookshelf, but it was taking up way too much room. This is just the right size next to my desk and can have a small lamp for the small sofa bed in there (about a full size). I love this, especially because the wood matches the desk and looks like they were made to go together. It’s very good weight (kinda like some Swedish furniture) and super easy to put together. Fits all my books, the small lamp and an African violet plant. Would also be good for a kids room (but either in a lighter color or painted). I may even get a 5 tier for the other side of the room for organizing chackies, photos, etc. Super happy and great addition to my home office!
