Does the trick

These are just fine. I think they are really meant to be set on their sides. I chose to mount them up high. They are a little flimsy. Using the backing board is imperative, as in many such cases.

Cheap, but does what it is advertised to do.

First let's be clear. This is a cheap, particle board bookcase and we all know that going in. I think I paid $45 or so.. And for the most part you get what you pay for.Packaging - Was packaged pretty well. .No shipping damageQuality - Well it is particle board with a plastic/vinyl veneer. It scratches pretty easy so be careful when you are assembling. But for the most part if put together properly it isn't too bad.Strength - This particular model is only about 24" wide so you won't see too much shelf sag. There is a reinforcement on the shelves which helps but knocks about 2 inches off the usable shelf height.Overall - I don't have too many complaints. I certainly wouldn't use this in my living room but isn't terrible for a bedroom, dorm, utility room if you need a small bookcase.

Not the best, disappointed.

I bought 2 of these to put side by side horizontally. They look ok, they were the size I needed so I kept them. However, there are no screws, it was all plastic "hardware" to put it together. The instructions say 10 mins to put together. Ha. Maybe if you put together these for a living you can do it fast. LOL. It is more like 30-40 mins minimum. The plastic hardware is a bit raised so you do not get a smooth surface. That was disappointing. You can see the top of the white plastic screws sticking out maybe 1/16" or so. Some of the plastic pieces were broken that holds the black flimsy cardboard on the back. I should write for replacements. It isn't too sturdy. If I could have found better bookcases in the size I needed, I would have bought something else. But I was stuck needing the 9" depth. It says each shelf holds 10 lbs. I am sure the shelves will warp someday but hoping they will last awhile. When you take the stickers off on each piece (A, B, C etc), a bit of the finish comes off and I did it slow and carefully but it still didn't help. Definitely not the best quality. Some shelves had chips but it was on the back side, not really seen. I have bought other shelves by Furinno that were better quality. I probably will not purchase from them again. They say no tools needed but I still needed a mallet, used carefully, as I am not strong enough to push those plastic pieces & wood dowels in place. So, I am giving this 3 stars because of the plastic hardware and poor quality. They need to provide real hardware to make this better quality and needs a better finish. A better quality cardboard on back too and not plastic "nails" to hold it in place.

On the smaller side

It's a nice shelf. It went together fast the directions say 10 mins but it definitely took me 15 to 20 but that maybe a me thing. Lol. The directions also say no tools needed I ended up using a small hammer for the little clear/white pieces and dowels just cause it was easier then my hands, (I'm not the strongest.) I do say it's small because for some reason I thought it was bigger. It is too small for what it was intended. My intention was to use it as a pet station. I wanted to put two food containers in the tall spots and the other cubes for puppy pads/extra treats. I'm really not out anything because it will still work great for another project. It looks great. If needing something on the smaller side I will definitely be buying again.

Seems a bit flimsy and not really toolless

Bought this unit new, the first unit arrived and was clearly a returned item and the package was a complete mess. The contents appeared OK but it was missing all the hardware -- so I had to go return it.Replacement arrives today, looks like a newer box and the hardware was there, the instructions were NOT included.The instructions online did NOT match the labels on the shelves, most of the pieces were just plain wrong.(i.e. all the shelves listed as "E", were actually all "B", etc.) . I was able to put it together from looking at the instructions, visually however, but the plastic screws MUST BE HAMMERED IN. Last I checked -- this is a tool. Also the little wooden dowels holding the shelves are pretty dang cheap.I know I bought an expensive shelf and it will serve it's purpose I believe, it does not look super sturdy and not sure how long in reality it will last.It's pretty small as well and it says it can only hold 10 lbs, which isn't very much at all in reality.I'd probably look at another alternative knowing what I know now.
