This is a beautiful bookshelf for the price. For roughly $40, I genuinely feel like the shelf is fully aligned with what you are paying for. Is it the most high-end bookshelf in the world? Of course not, but if it were, it would not be $40.I think some of the reviews may be based on expectations that are a little too high for the price point. For $40, this is a very decent shelf. The size makes sense, the quality makes sense, and the overall look is actually really beautiful once it is put together properly. A larger shelf or heavier-duty material would naturally cost more, so I personally think this shelf is fair for what it is.Assembly does require patience and attention. It is not hard, but it is also not something I would recommend rushing through or putting together as if you already know what you are doing. You really do have to follow the directions carefully and check the alignment before moving on to the next piece. I ran into a few small snags while building mine, but once I slowed down, looked back at the instructions, and checked the pieces again, everything made sense.At one point, I thought the holes were not aligned, but they actually were. I just needed to step back, look at the shelf from a better angle, and make sure everything was positioned correctly before tightening and continuing. That is probably the biggest thing I would tell anyone buying this shelf: do not assume something is wrong right away. Before fully building out each section, pause and make sure the pieces are truly lined up. The holes on mine aligned perfectly once I adjusted everything properly.This shelf does require a little common sense, especially because it involves screws, alignment, and multiple pieces coming together. That is not a flaw to me. That is just part of building furniture. If you take your time, it comes together beautifully.As far as the size, I think it is a good size for the price. I noticed some people mentioned it being smaller than expected, but again, for a $40 bookshelf, I think the size is reasonable. It is not meant to hold an entire library, and I would not recommend it for very large or extremely heavy books. However, for regular books, decor, smaller items, or a styled shelf setup, it works perfectly.I also really like that you have the option to mount it on the wall instead of only placing it on the floor. That gives you more flexibility depending on your space. Some people may want to sit it on top of a dresser, desk, or stand, while others may prefer to mount it higher on the wall. I love having that option.Overall, I really love my shelf. It worked out perfectly for what I needed. The holes aligned, the shelf looks beautiful, and the size makes sense for the price. I am not saying it will be perfect for everyone, but I do think a lot of the complaints come from expecting more than what a $40 bookshelf is realistically going to offer.For the price, I think this is a beautiful, functional, and fair purchase. Just take your time with assembly, follow the directions closely, check your alignment before moving forward, and do not rush the process.

Perfect For Masochists, BUT

Do you like abstinence? Plain lukewarm oatmeal? Dogs that drool? Hot, muggy days? Sitting in traffic? Nickelback?Look no further. Here’s your bookshelf. Come armed with a good phillips screwdriver (one is thoughtfully included with the kit, but forget it unless you LIKE PAIN), about an hour of your life, and lots of patience for spatial challenges and little pieces.However.This tiny shelf is a surprise win. At just $39, it looks far nicer than you’d expect, could be used as a rack to hold weights (I’m serious), and has the same finish as my RH bedroom set, which is either a good or a bad thing, now that I stop to consider it.As an obsessive bedside reader, this little shelf swallowed up about 75 pounds of scattered paperbacks, journals and hardcovers, leaving me with a clear, trip-free floor and the impression that I have my crap together (I so don’t). It is sturdy and quite tip-resistant, but does come with a wall anchor for folks with busy kids or cats with nocturnal zoomies.Was this fun to put together? As much fun as a root canal on a Tuesday. But was it worth it? Definitely.The kit contains everything one needs for a spell of drudgery, but all my pieces and parts were there, plus extras—even a microfiber cloth to wipe stray styrofoam bits off the shelf. And the shelf itself is a bomb little piece that amazed me with how many books it can hold in a very small, surprisingly good-looking footprint.Highly recommended, honestly.

Cute shelf, affordable price. Not large.

4 stars. This definitely isn’t solid wood, but for the price I was pleasantly surprised by how sturdy and clean it looked once assembled. The biggest issue was the instructions — they kept mentioning certain holes needing to face a specific direction without clearly explaining it, so we ended up rebuilding sections a couple times. Frustrating at first, but once together it actually holds a surprisingly large number of books and works great for smaller spaces. Overall, happy with it and it looks much more modern than a standard bookshelf. Shelves aren’t wide enough for picture books though - so keep that in mind if you have littles. I’d say it’s a good value for the price.
